Northern Spicebush (Lindera benzoin)

The Northern Spicebush is a deciduous understory shrub that reaches 6 to 14 feet in height. Expect yellow blooms February through March. Prefers average to wet soil moisture and full to partial shade.

Stems, leaves and red fruits are strongly and pleasantly fragrant. In late summer, the yellow leaves and red fruit are striking. Host plant for Spicebush Swallowtail and Promethean Silk moth.
